Join us at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, May 4, 2013, as author Tim Ritter shares his path toward publication and what it was like to work with the popular print-on-demand publisher Vervante. If you have considered self-publishing and are curious about the process of print-on-demand publishing, bring your questions and be ready to take lots of notes.”Soul Sketches” is a heart-felt collection of poems and writings of life and love, marriage, children, divorce, death, faith, and all the other events and emotions that make up the human experience.Tim Ritter started writing the collection that became Soul Sketches while he was in college, making record of the events going on in his life and the lives of those around him. Over the next 20+ years, he recorded finding love, becoming a husband and father, losing family members, ending a marriage, raising sons, discovering love again in life and other events, as well as expressing whimsical ideas. He also explores his own lusts and desires and examines finding ways to express his faith.Soul Sketches is intended to be a collection of thoughts and experiences where the reader can find him or her self, find pieces they can identify with. The author hopes while reading this collection, the reader wants to stand up and say, “Been there!”The book is available online at: http://store.vervante.com/c/v/V4081608812.htmlWe are scheduled to be in the Frisco Room at The Library Station this month.
Our very own Lisa Wells is presenting an introduction to her popular online course, Getting Serious About Writing a Series.

Learn the “musts” of writing a series.

Lisa Wells is a 22-year veteran educator. For the past 16 years, she has enjoyed a rollercoaster journey called: The School Counselor – Dramas, Dreams, and Destinies. Add the theme song to “Jaws,” and you have the feel for this fun ride.

Author of “Dibs,” a sexy romance nominated as Debut Book That Rocks and Best Book of The Year, Lisa believes writers should never quit studying their craft. When she decided to write a series and couldn’t find affordable material that taught the nuances of writing series vs. stand alone books, she designed her own how-to class. Self-appointed number one fan of Margie Lawson, she was thrilled to be given the opportunity to unveil her class at Lawson Writer’s Academy.

My parents claim they found me in a pineapple patch in Hawai’i and brought me home. I grew up in South Texas reading Tolkien, Asimov, and Robert E. Howard . I’ve always loved telling stories, and in high school, I wrote pulp style action adventures for my friends. Since then, I’ve been filling notebooks and hard drives with stories and ideas.

After I graduated from Calallen High School, I joined the Air Force to see the world. The Air Force had other ideas, and I ended up in Kansas, and fled at the first opportunity for greener anything. My travels eventually brought me to Missouri, where I live today.Over the years, I’ve studied or learned about archery, swordfighting, Wicca, a host of other religions, massage therapy, reiki and a list of other skills that have no particular use outside of an historical recreation event. Three of the best years of my life were spent working in a New Age/pagan bookstore.

Like a lot of writers, I have music that I listen to when I write. I use Pandora.com and Playlist.com to keep me focused when there are distractions in the house around me or when I need to get into a particular frame of mind. I’m always looking for new music that creates a similar mood as the songs on this list.
